3 Reasons Why Personal Training Doesn’t Work

Personal Training Doesn't Work

People more and more are looking for convenience in today’s fast-paced environment. Whether it’s regarding food, travel, business or fitness even. This ongoing and everlasting trend has led us to create our sought after in-home personal training business Trainers On Site.

Some things in life just work and yet some don’t. Mobile personal training does work but here are 3 reasons why personal training doesn’t work for you?

1. You Don’t Exercise Enough.

One of the reasons why personal training doesn’t work for you is because you simply don’t do enough exercise. If you signed up to a personal training program where we come to your house for only 2 times per week over 6 months, it is not enough activity on it’s own.

Most of our in-home personal training clients burn 400 to 500 calories per hour per workout with us. Let’s say at the max it’s 500 calories per hour and you’re exercising 2 times per week. That’s only a 1,000 calorie deficit per week.

For example, if you eat 1 fast food meal per week it can easily equate to that same amount of calories you just tried to eliminate, for perspective.

Remember, it takes a deficit of 3,500 calories to lose 1 pound. Doing the same math as previously mentioned above, it would take 7 hours of working out to lose that 1 pound. Is that possible? Of course it is.

So, you need to exercise more and with the proper program. For example, you should be adding a 3rd day of strength training per week with your trainer or on your own. You also need to add in some cardiovascular training on your non-strength days too.

Your personal cardio can be done with your body weight alone if you’re creative and highly motivated enough. If you’re lacking this, then do like most of our clients and opt for a treadmill, elliptical or any other cardio machine for the home. This will help compliment your strength training routine. Your personal exercise or lack there of could be a reason why personal training doesn’t work for you.

2. You Are Too Highly Stressed.

You maybe asking, “Rob, what do you mean?” What I mean is you’re probably not sleeping enough and you’re wound up way too tight. If you don’t get enough rest and rejuvenation, your body will be in a constant state of stress.

When your body is in a constant state of stress it will have a high level of cortisol. This stress hormone prevents you from losing weight. In fact, it helps put weight on.

You also need to take time to smell the roses. You need time to relax and let your mind shut down. Relaxation, meditation  or breathing techniques will help battle stress as well.

Regarding exercise, it is quite possible to over-train your body too – which is more stress. This is where proper exercise planning from a nationally certified personal trainer comes in handy. I’ve often seen or heard of people get injured from over usage of muscles and joints.

There are a lot of fitness programs out there that offer strength training 5 – 7 days per week included with your membership. Don’t fall into the trap of trying to make the most use of this by training every day the same muscles. That’s a big no no. Give your body some rest and take a complete full day off of training those same muscles.

Not enough rest is a direct correlation as to why your personal training doesn’t work for you.

3. You Keep Eating Like Crap.

There is some truth to the saying “80% of a successful fitness program is nutrition.” Let me explain…

There are 7 days per week and we are taught or recommended to eat 5 – 6 small meals per day. Even on the low side of eating 4 meals per day, it equates out to 28 meals per week.

Compare the amount of times you eat versus the amount of times we exercise. 5 versus 28. There is your 20/80 ratio. You can clearly see that there are many more opportunities going against your plan of becoming more healthy. Especially when it comes to weight loss.

When you clean up your eating habits results happen quickly. Aim to eliminate refined foods or man made products. Look to consume foods that have little to no extra ingredients.

I suggest to eat clean 80 – 90% of the time. Don’t diet. Diets never  work long term. This is one of the main reasons why personal training doesn’t work.

Have your personal trainer suggest ways you can implement a 3rd strength training session in per week. Be sure to also ask them about what other kind of activities you can do to help burn extra calories at home.

Your in-home personal trainer should be able to help you with ideas on how to rest more and share methods to beat stress.

Most personal trainers have a basic understanding of nutrition and clean eating. Ask your trainer about the Canada food guide and some of its guidelines or best practices.
